Questions to Ask Before Any Med Spa Treatment
In short: Before any treatment, confirm who the medical director is, who's performing it and their training, whether they can manage a complication, whether you're truly a candidate, and the honest cost and risks.
The consultation is where you find out whether a clinic is right for you, if you ask the right questions. This is a short, practical list you can bring (or screenshot) to any med spa consult. The answers, and how readily they're given, tell you most of what you need to know.
A quality clinic welcomes these questions. Hesitation or evasiveness on any of them is itself an answer.
Structure and people
Start with the medical foundation: Who is your medical director, and are they involved in the clinic's care? Who will perform my treatment, what is their license, and what specific training do they have on this exact product or device? How many of these treatments do they do?
Safety and honesty
Then the safety and candor questions: How do you handle a complication, do you keep reversal agents on hand for filler? Am I genuinely a good candidate for this, and what happens if I'm not? What are the real risks and the honest downtime? And finally, what's the all-in cost, and is there any pressure to decide today (there shouldn't be)?
The checklist
- Who is your medical director, and are they involved?
- Confirm a real, engaged, licensed physician anchors the clinic.
- Who performs my treatment and what's their training?
- The right license plus specific, current training on this treatment.
- How do you handle a complication?
- Reversal agents, written protocols, and a clear escalation path.
- Am I really a candidate, and what if I'm not?
- You want honest candidacy and a willingness to say no or refer out.
- What are the real risks, downtime, and all-in cost?
- Clear, pressure-free answers, no 'today only' urgency.
